I’m struggling to create a board game, which is a goal I created for myself. I surveyed my friends to see when the last time they bought a board game was and the last time they played a board game. I asked:
The answers surprised me a little bit. People are still playing board games. It could be that I asked this question around the holidays, but still they are being played. Out of 15 answers, 8 have played a board game within the last month and 12 have bought a game as a gift or for their selves. Trivial Pursuit seems to be the most popular board game among my friends, as well as Scrabble. Although, I’m not entirely sure that Scrabble is a board game. It has a board and chance is involved, but it’s a little iffy.
After reviewing some of the characteristics of my favorite board games, it seems that I like my friends need a challenge. Not just a get to the finish line challenge, but one that forces me to think along the away. Games that use reason, question your ability, and test your knowledge are great to play in groups. If I take the things I love, it should be easy to create a board game. Well not easy, as I’m still struggling but easier.
