A Brutally Honest Look
A confession: academic writing isn’t a straight path but more of a looping, spiraling, sometimes wild adventure. So I tried to map the chaos.

People talk about writing like it’s a cycle or a process — neat, knowable, step by step. But for me, it’s an adventure: twists, turns, detours, and the emotional toll of navigating terrain you can’t fully predict. It took me years to learn that the intro comes last. Asking for feedback is a small part of writing; it’s a choice. I highly recommend it. I asked my friends to read chapters of my dissertation to see if they had questions or parts where they said, “So what? Why should I care?” Is academic writing a cycle, a map, a loop, or something else for you?
