Wendi Kavanaugh has a diverse academic background, having earned her B.S. in Radio and Television from Texas A&M University–Commerce, followed by an M.A. in Photography, an MFA in Game and Sound Design, and a PhD in Humanities (History) from The University of Texas at Dallas. She’s passionate about exploring U.S.–Latin American diplomacy during World War II, particularly the work of the Office of the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs and the FBI. Wendi also enjoys delving into broader topics, such as twentieth-century Mexican history and Latin American travel writing.
In her teaching, she focuses on courses in espionage and intelligence history, where she examines how covert operations, propaganda, and surveillance shape political narratives across the Americas.. Currently, she’s excited to be developing new courses that incorporate maps, gaming, and Latin American studies, blending her various interests into a cohesive educational experience.
